The Downtown Ottumwa Neighborhood

The Hotel Ottumwa in Ottumwa, Iowa is located in the heart of a resurging district which offers great dining and shopping options – including unique dining experiences like Appanoose Bar & Grill and The Canteen. Ottumwa also is the home to numerous authentic Latin food offerings like El Rancho Grande, Mimi’s Cafe, Tortaco, and Super Mercado Cerro Grande. Cerro Grande is a mercado in the front and a traditional diner in the back.

Stop into Top Hat Coffee, a newly remodeled coffee shop in a beautifully renovated historic building in downtown Ottumwa. Enjoy live music, and delicious food.  There is no shortage of places to have lunch in downtown Ottumwa.  Of course we recommend our own Second Street Cafe, and Tom-Tom Tap, but we also suggest stopping into the Owl’s Nest or Morgan’s Corner.  The Owl’s Nest hosts a pretty great Karaoke night every Saturday as well. The Hub serves a great boba tea and coffee.  Near the train station, Coal Palace Cafe and Books serves lunch as well.  Blaine’s Bagels is quickly becoming a new local favorite.

Guests might choose to walk, ride, bus, or drive from the Hotel Ottumwa directly to the Bridge View Center, and The Beach Ottumwa. Downtown also features “indie” shops like Martha’s Nook & Cranny, Market on Main and a collection of vintage shops, art galleries (check out the trendy Anomaly Gallery), and a variety of antique and flea markets, such as the fantastic Antiques and Uniques.

And just a short drive will take you to area favorites like the American Gothic House in Eldon Iowa, which inspired the famed Grant Wood painting, Cedar Valley Winery, and two area golf courses: Ottumwa Country Club and Cedar Creek Golf Course.
